About Us – Scramble Brand

Scramble is a combat sports / jiujitsu / MMA / Grappling and lifestyle brand founded in the United Kingdom in 2009 (although officially registered from 2010.)

It was founded by Matt Benyon, after living in Japan for a number of years. At the time, the Japanese MMA and fightwear scene was light years ahead of the rest of the world, with some already established brands and designers leading the way. Matt wanted to bring some of that flavour back to the UK, so Scramble began as a business importing Japanese jiujitsu and MMA gear to the motherland. Matt also made connections with the publishers of numerous Japanese BJJ magazines and media companies, and they were added to the import list. Soon, Scramble had built up a loyal following of customers who were switched onto the Japanese style of jiujitsu goods – high quality and with a refined design sense. Before long, Matt’s school friend Ben Tong came on board (through a shared love of MMA and jiujitsu) and the focus was shifted to creating their own goods rather than importing Japanese goods.

While Ben and Matt were still working other jobs full time for a number of years, and working on Scramble every lunch break and evening, they built up a solid product offering – including spats, which were considered revolutionary at the time (in fact, they were so early to the ‘spats party’, they would chase down and send angry emails to any company using the word “spats”) – but it wasn’t until the first gi release – the Ichiban – that the company really took off. Eventually Matt and Ben would make the leap to full-time Scramble and the rest, as they say, is history.

Now Scramble has a full team of staff and is sending out orders of gis, rashguards, grappling shorts, jiujitsu-inspired streetwear, and loads more – to every corner of the globe, every day. Scramble has collaborated with some of the biggest names in combat sports – from athletes like Kazushi Sakuraba to Mirko Cro Cop and Genki Sudo – and with some of the biggest brands in our space, from Manto to 100 Athletic to Reversal.

Scramble sponsors some of the top athletes in Europe and across the world, and is embedded with Polaris, one of the best (if not the best) professional jiujitsu superfight shows in the world.

Scramble is constantly innovating in the fightwear market, balancing staple jiujitsu items with limited edition collectibles and collaborations.
